NATURE IS
THE INITIAL DRAW

Terrasses du Larzac is nestled in the foothills of the Languedoc. The appellation, which extends over 32 municipalities, is born from this raw and generous land. For thousands of years this land has continued to reshape and transform itself.

Here, nature and winegrowers are one, as Mother Earth takes care of those that listen to her. The winegrowers, having long understood their place, act as protectors and conduits of history and knowledge. A predestined encounter between land and winegrowers gives rise to exceptional red wines, recognised through the Appellation d'Origine Protogée (Protected Designation of Origin - PDO) status, awarded in 2014.

WE STAY
FOR THE PEOPLE

The Appellation

Terrasses du Larzac

The appellation, which brings together over 100 winegrowers, was recognised as an Appellation d'Origine Protégée (Protected Designation of Origin - PDO) at the end of 2014. The "Terrasses" are forged by the successive geological eras that have enriched the soils, and also by the dominant position of the vineyard which is nourished by a cool climate. Humans have also left their respectful imprint, sculpting the landscape with dry stone walls. The "Larzac", a land of struggle and history, exerts its climatic influence which tempers the Mediterranean heat. Here, wherever we look, we are surprised and moved by the flourishing flora and fauna, the hilltop ridges that catch the eye...

Terroir

The breathtaking nature offers an infinite combination of terroirs and grape varieties that all benefit from the cooling influence of the Larzac plateau. These factors give a solid foundation for producing excellent wines. Terrasses du Larzac is a swathe of vines punctuated by Mediterranean hills. The flowing river carves out a path through the garrigue, and the red-ochre rocks plunge into an emerald lake. The immense plateau is brutally interrupted by vertiginous gorges, which are classed as a national heritage site (Grand Site de France St Guilhem-le-Désert et les Gorges de l'Hérault).

Philosophy

Make agroecology the norm! Terrasses du Larzac is a collective of winegrowers dedicated to creating a thriving sustainable local area, supporting its development economically, socially and ecologically. For viable, long-lasting vinyards, our winegrowers are committed to sustainable agriculture (75% of producers cultivate organically). This approach encompasses a human dimension too, which is based on knowledge exchange and the sharing of expertise.

A word from the
president

Our Terrasses du Larzac appellation brings together 150 winegrowers. Each and every one is committed to making exceptional wines, and this is shown by the dedicated daily investment in both the vineyards and wine production. I am proud to be a winegrower in this appellation and I am proud to be its President. 30 years ago, very few people believed in this terroir, yet we, together, understood its potential, its grandeur. Its rich history is also intertwined with our own personal histories, both individual and collective. The appellation brings together people from all walks of life. These honest, and often headstrong, personalities embody the image of our appellation: young, dynamic, demanding and sincere. Let yourself be tempted by our wines; come and explore the vineyards whose contrasting landscapes are well worth the visit!
